Dimitar Maiski - the architect of modern Goritsa
Dimitar Mayski holds a special place in the history of the village of Goritsa. His long tenure as Mayor marked a period of growth, development, and purposeful urban planning that permanently transformed the village and improved the lives of its residents.
Between 1954 and 1979, under his leadership, numerous significant infrastructure, cultural, and social projects were realized. The water supply network and the village bridges were constructed, forming the foundation for sustainable development. In the fields of culture and education, the Community Center (Chitalishte) and the Agricultural School were built. Special attention was also given to social welfare through the establishment of a children’s home, a public bath, and a bakery.
Public life in Goritsa was revitalized with the creation of a park, a stadium, a commercial building, and a restaurant—spaces that became natural hubs for social gatherings and community interaction.
Today, we remember Dimitar Mayski—Mayor of Goritsa for a quarter of a century—with gratitude and respect. His vision, dedication, and organizational spirit have left a lasting legacy. Many of the buildings and facilities still used by the village today are the result of his hard work and forward-thinking governance. In recognition of his contributions, the square in front of the Mayor’s Office bears his name.
